Intro

Hi everyone, I'm Rob. I'm passionate about all things AWS, Serverless, Linux, SRE/DevOps tools such as Ansible and Terraform. Techcoder is all about the technology projects I'm working on.

To give you some background on me - some of the technolgies and programming languages I've used in the past are RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, NGINX, Apache, LAMP stack, WAF, HAProxy, Load Balancers, HTML, PHP, YAML, MySQL/SQL, bash scripting, Jira, Bitbucket, Git, CodeCommit, CodePipeline, VMware, Azure, Corosync, Pacemaker, Keepalived, various Firewalls, Zabbix/Cloudwatch monitoring, Event Tracker SIEM, Rapid7/Qualys security scans.

More about me:

Over the years I've earned the following certifications: RHCSA, LINUX+, AWS Certified Developer - Associate, Network+ and I'm always looking to learn more! I've worked on teams/projects as a Linux Engineer, System Administrator, AWS Cloud Engineer, Web Developer, Network Engineer, Infrastructure Team Lead.

Some of my recent projects are:

• Architect/develop this website! Techcoder.co utilizes AWS Route53, CloudFront, S3, HTML5/CSS/Node.js, Git/Github, CodePipeline (auto deploy to website). API Gateway (REST API), AWS Lambda, JSON, Amazon SES for serverless contact form and email trigger. Techcoder.co email server dns/mx records setup. I also utilized Visual Studio Code.


• Work hand in hand with developers on web server/site migrations from IBM iSeries to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 with NGINX WAF / load balancers to scale systems to support high business growth.


• RHEL/CentOS Linux system administration, OS upgrades, troubleshooting problems, and ensuring maximum availability. Plan and implement AWS cloud & infrastructure solutions for new systems.


• Setup Jira, Bitbucket, Bamboo and integrated them together so business could follow the development process from planning to final delivery. Allowed visibility on builds, pull requests, deployments.


• Utilize Ansible to deploy/ensure desired state configurations.


• GoAccess (open source real-time web log analyzer), Graylog, Event Tracker SIEM for better logs and visibility.


• Collaborated with data science / developers to provide R, R studio, Shiny, and NGINX solutions to meet their and the business' needs.


• Worked with team on development / security initiatives – add security headers to code, Apache, & NGINX such as X-Frame-Options, X-Content-Type-Options, Content Security Policy, X-XSS-Protection, X-Forwarded-For. WAF (web application firewall) installation/management to protect custom web applications/software. Ensure proper IAM / VPC / network segmentation for PCI compliance.


• Worked with team to implement / integrate, application and server monitoring using Cloudwatch, AppOptics (Application Performance Management), Sentry.io. Act as escalation point for developers, troubleshooting advanced systems/network/security issues.
